Hello everyone, this is the Worship Pastor at First Euless - I suppose it's about time for me to contribute to this post! Yes, two more weeks until blast-off - I'm excited! I do have a good excuse for not posting yet - namely, getting ready for the above-mentioned production!
I do hope you are doing all you can to be here and to invite your friends and family. It will be something we have not attempted in my 10+ years serving at First Euless. This is about as close to a pageant as we will probably get. This is what I would call a CONTEMPORARY pageant (Wow - now we have to differentiate between TRADITIONAL pageant and CONTEMPORARY pageant!). The content is the same - the timeless story of the birth of Jesus, our Emmanuel, God With Us. But the presentation will be unique, utilizing just about every area of ministry and every available technology at our disposal - adult choir, orchestra, kids' choirs, student choir, drama, elaborate set, cool lights and video, and some other surprises!
The presentation fits well within our philosophy in worship - making the most of every Sunday. One reason our church has never embraced the pageant is because of the possible neglect and loss of excellence in our week-to-week Sunday services. Our goal has always been to make each Sunday the BIG EVENT. This production allows us to utilize many of the same elements of a pageant, but without affecting our weekly Sunday mornings, and it will more than likely add greater emphasis to our worship services in December. It's allowed us to create a pageant-like environment without losing sight of the big picture. And it's energized our ministry - we have close to 200 signed up in our choir! That will be the record for any event I've led. It will be glorious!
